FOR CHILDREN AGED 3-5 YEARS
We have 22 places in our very spacious and well-equipped
pre-school room. The staff ratio is 1:6. Our pre-school children
will be situated in a completely separate area, formerly
the village library which includes a large, airy main room
and a conservatory. There is a separate kitchen for drinks
and snacks and separate toilet facilities.
Children move into the pre-school room at a time in their
development when they are ready for a more structured approach.
The aim of the pre-school room is to promote a smooth transition
from toddler to confident pre-schooler, and to prepare your
child for the next stage in their development and education
e.g. Primary School. All of the children in this room are
encouraged to work and play independently as well as part
of a group and are encouraged to participate and co-operate
in new activities. A full range of activities is available
and these include.
Reading/quiet corner
Sand and water
Art and craft
Role play
Home corner
Construction
Music and dance
P.E
Outdoor activities including gardening
Cookery
Nursery trips e.g. castle museum
Computer skills
We try to ensure that pre-school children spend regular
quality “ fun time “ getting to know their way
around a computer. At this age children have an enormous
capacity to learn which means that they quickly build confidence
and skills in basic IT.
The range of activities and resources offered are structured
so that your child reaches their full potential. As the nursery
is registered to accept the early years education grant,
which is paid to parents/carers of three and four year olds
who attend a registered setting, we work towards the government
targets, set out as early learning goals. We will also be
inspected and monitored by OFSTED. Children in this group
will be working towards and covering the early learning goals
stipulated by the Department for Employment and Education
(DFEE). These are intended to be achieved by the time children
have completed their reception year at school. |
